Bio
Over Grey is a band from Hawaii, composed of musicians whose extensive and diverse backgrounds span decades in the music scene. The lineup includes Nita Wills as the lead vocalist, Aaron Garcia on guitar and keys, Ernie Ecraela on bass, Matt McPherson on guitar, and Nick Sheehan on drums. Together, they have crafted a signature style that blends indie, shoegaze, and alternative rock, which they affectionately call "Taco Rock."
Nita Wills, the band's charismatic front woman from Pennsylvania, residing in Honolulu. She began her musical journey at a young age playing the violin. Over time, she explored other instruments, including the piano and guitar, eventually finding her voice in alternative and punk music. In 2015, Nita joined a punk band where she first met Aaron Garcia, and their musical chemistry has been central to Over Grey's evolution. Nita's raw and emotional vocals form the heart of the band's sound, giving their music an edge that resonates with audiences.
Aaron Garcia, from Mililani, Aaron is one of Over Grey’s guitarists and the band’s synth player. His fascination with music began in childhood, when he’d dissect cassette tapes and album inserts to understand their rhythms and melodies. Early experiments with makeshift drum kits made from pots and pans set the stage for his creative path. During the 2020 lockdown, Aaron began writing guitar riffs that would become the foundation of Over Grey’s first EP. His melodic, intricate guitar work and synth layers are now a defining part of the band’s sound.
Ernie is the band’s most seasoned veteran, having played with virtually every major musician in Hawaii’s music scene and toured internationally, performing for audiences around the world. His decades of experience and deep industry connections bring invaluable expertise to Over Grey. Ernie’s passion for music began when he first heard his cousin play guitar, sparking a lifelong love for the craft. As a frequent stand-in bassist for Nita and Aaron’s earlier projects, Ernie naturally became a core part of Over Grey’s rhythm section.
Matt brings a distinctive voice to Over Grey’s guitar section. Born in England, he now resides in Honolulu. He comes from a musical family, but it wasn’t until an injury ended his athletic career that he fully embraced music. Since then, he has spent decades performing with various bands and venues across Hawaii. His style blends texture, emotion, and deep musical sensibility, adding richness and atmosphere to the band’s sonic palette. Matt’s playing weaves seamlessly with Aaron’s, helping shape Over Grey’s immersive, guitar-driven sound.
Nick Sheehan, the drummer, brings energy and intensity to the group. Born in California and raised in Kailua, Nick was inspired to play drums after watching his cousin perform. Over the years, he developed a drumming style that combines precision with energy, adding a distinct dynamic to the band's live shows.
Over Grey officially came together during the COVID-19 pandemic, when Nita, Aaron, and Ernie began collaborating remotely. That time of isolation sparked a period of introspection and creativity, ultimately shaping the band’s distinctive sound. Drawing inspiration from iconic bands like Led Zeppelin, Radiohead, and Incubus, as well as personal favorites such as Sum 41, Fiona Apple, Queen, and The Beatles, Over Grey fuses elements of indie, shoegaze, and alternative rock into something uniquely their own.
Their music is a reflection of personal growth, resilience, and creative freedom, born from adversity and bonded by collaboration. With a sound rooted in both emotion and edge, and a lineup of deeply seasoned musicians, Over Grey is carving out their own space in the modern rock landscape.
